Kozar, Joy M., and Sara B. Marcketti. “Examining ethics and materialism with the purchase of counterfeits.” Social Responsibility Journal 7.3 (2011): 393-404.

Kozar and Sara performed a study on undergraduate students to gauge their materialistic and ethical values and correlated these variables with the trend in the purchase of these apparel products. They found out that those that upheld ethics in their decision making had limited materialistic values, hence less likely to have purchased such goods.
