Article1: Occupy Your Education
Occupy movement is a movement that deals with social justice and consists of several college students who are involved in radical social movement. Mostly, the issues of fairness, social equality, and political revolution are greatly addressed by such kind of movement. The rich history of university activism can be said to be the major contribution for the current movements. College campus should be used as an avenue of addressing matters that affect the society although many students do this at the expense of the society. This is really affecting the academic performance of the students. College education provides important skills that equip students to participate in social movements (Gandio n.p).
There are particular topics such as racial disparities, conflict resolution, and social/political significance of literature thus developing a body knowledge that helps in changing the world. College’s social life provides a good chance for a student to participate in social change issues due to the fact that teens begin to be independent and interact with various people from different backgrounds. These interactions and discussions enable the students to learn more things that are related to social change, political practice and personal growth. Most students who pursue their degrees in colleges do more than just learning. Education should therefore be a way of life that enables people to enforce their rights through political influence (Gandio n.p).
Article2: The No-Limits Job
Young people have always been exploited in the job market due to the fact that they are many and are ready to offer unpaid internship. The unpaid interns however, are said to be demoralized and can therefore decide to do certain things such as coming late or leaving early as well as refusing to respond to e-mails. Most of the interns get discouraged because they learn very little as they do lots of work yet nothing is paid in return. Companies are taking advantage of young graduates by paying them less but expecting much from them. Graduates normally sacrifice to do their best by fully committing themselves to their jobs yet these efforts are never appreciated (Wayne n.p).
In fashion and style, it is hard for someone to be convinced that he is doing something better for the company. It is hard to quantify digital work it is something you can do anytime during the day. The traditional boundary between work and social life is nowadays very thin due to the existence of the internet and other forms of online work. Young people work for long hours but do not consider the stress coming with the long hours of work. Young people in their twenties can do different jobs within a short period of time so long as they earn some cash (Wayne n.p).
Why should young people be paid less yet they are the most productive people? Does the company management regard future prospects of their firm? Why it is that management of most firms are reluctant in tapping potential employees yet they do not create a good working environment?
The fact that many students are engaged in social movements is true especially the students studying political science. Any student studying liberal arts has diverse knowledge regarding human interactions and human rights. Interaction among the students is very vital as far as information sharing is concerned. I have come across several social movements that are either led by former student leaders or are currently led by the current students.
A good number of interns complain about the frustrations they undergo while seeking internship. They are mostly working for long hours and given a lot of assignments at work places yet the payment are very low. Interns struggle to go to work because they are demoralized and therefore are not interested to work. Internship has actually lost its meaning since the students learn very little while being trained. The management of many firms is only busy with meeting their own targets and is less concerned with the students’ welfare.
The class should discuss issues such as the impact of the social movements in the society. It is also important to discuss the funding of these social movements and find out the relationship between the individuals or institutions funding the students and the issue being campaigned against.
Interns’ impact being neglected by most of the company employees should be discussed. It is important to address the challenges of interns and solution that can be applied because the learning process is important in career growth.
