Introduction

The journal outlines a study that was based on previous studies done to examine the role of Breast Cancer Susceptibility Gene in regulating chemotherapy induced damage of the DNA considering its fundamental component that is involved in varied aspects pertaining to responses to DNA damage, as well as the pivotal role pertaining to DNA repair pathway. The researchers successfully detected BRCA1 mRNA expression in 144 tumor samples through the utilization of quantitative real-time PCR.  The study established no significant correlation between expression levels of BRCA1 and clinical characteristics such as gender, age, stage, performance status and site of tumor. There is a correlation between Low BRCA1 mRNA expression and increased response rate and median overall survival in chemoradiotherapy and cisplatin-based therapy, as well as decreased RR and mOS in chemoradiotherapy or docetaxel-based group (Gao et al, 2013). In addition, Multivariate analysis showed low BRCA1 expression to be an independent prognostic factor in chemoradiotherapy or cisplatin-based chemotherapy group, as well as a higher risk for mortality in chemoradiotherapy or docetaxel-based chemotherapy group (Gao et al, 2013).
