The concept helped me to understand and enhance time management, which has been a significant setback in my life. Furthermore, I learned the importance of effective communication. According to Covey, leaders must understand others first before they seek to be understood. Unquestionably, effective communication is crucial in all business transactions and management levels. It fosters good relationships with an organization, enables leaders to communicate objectives clearly, and allows leaders to understand the needs of their followers. Therefore, studying Covey’s book changed my perspective on how I approach various life issues.
Before, while working as an assistant manager in one of the leading restaurants in the country, I realized that I had the potential to achieve more in life and help others. Still, I had low self-esteem, was mediocre at listening, and did not put extra effort into improving my skills. I interacted with many people from different backgrounds, and I could feel that the majority of them were not sure of what they wanted. Even though I knew what they required, I often ignored them and could not understand their predicament. The main challenge with this experience was that I failed to provide crucial information, which could have been a suitable solution to the growing number of problems presented to me. Additionally, having low self-esteem made me feel as if I was incapable of handling specific life issues, especially in cases involving my seniors. However, after realizing these challenges, I started training myself on active listening and effective communication. Moreover, I studied more on personal development and growth to enhance my self-esteem and acquire crucial skills in life coaching and leadership. Gradually, I gained confidence and realized how important it could be to practice effective communication and help others. Consequently, I have been an influential figure to all my workmates, family, and other people in all my endeavors anywhere. Personal development training has immensely helped me to improve on my leadership skills and self-awareness, and I now know that I can be of help to my colleagues, clients, and bosses.

According to Covey, a mission and a vision act like a lens from which to view the desired world. Covey further explains about life centers, which are sources of wisdom, guidance, security, and power. His explanation shifted my perspective on the importance of living a principle life. I realized that a principle-centered person always knows his or her directions. In this way, such an individual accomplishes nearly all his or her goals and remains proactive. Besides, the synergize concept broadened my understanding of creative cooperation, especially in the workplace (Covey 32). I have realized that when people understand each other in an agreement, they invite new insights and reach to paramount solutions, which could have been difficult to achieve individually. All the parties to an agreement create a win/win situation. Such a strategy is vital in solving conflicts in different establishments and identifying suitable solutions in tough occurrences. Therefore, Cover’s discussion on personal development and leadership has helped acquire new understanding and insights on a wide variety of issues in life.
Covey’s discussion provides essential knowledge on how to approach leadership issues and strategically plan and prepare for different life endeavors. The overarching objective of hospitality leadership is providing exceptional customer service aimed at exceeding the needs of customers. Leaders in any hospitality industry must strive to achieve consistent results, create a cohesive team, and promote professionalism. Moreover, leaders must always have a winning attitude, be proactive, and remain innovative to achieve a competitive advantage. After studying Covey’s concept on habits of highly effective people, I have realized that the ideas developed in his discussion train an individual to become an effective leader, especially in the hospitality industry. During my time working as an assistant manager in a restaurant, Covey’s discussion helped me to adopt a leadership perspective as opposed to management. As a result, I also shared a new understanding with my teammates and some of my seniors. Overall, all employees embraced the need to become reliable and effective leaders not only in workplaces but also in communities, families, and other institutions. This paradigm shift enabled the company to consistently record a high number of guests, improve its sales, become more professional, and adopt outstanding customer service strategies. Therefore, Covey’s discussion has indeed been fundamental in my endeavor to develop personal and professional skills.
