The speech of Emma Gonzalez, a senior at Marjory Stoneman Douglas high school addressing the lawmaker and gun advocates regarding the gunman that shot her school, is a reflection of the state of things across the country and the feeling of the victims towards the situation and the government. Emma is just one courageous victim who is willing to risk her life to point out the inefficiency of the government. It is quite ironic that the authorities were threatening to arrest Kaitlin Bennett because of posting a photo where he was posing with a firearm for self-protection. Yet, the liberals can do that freely without restrictions. This act is clear evidence that the government is not part of us despite their instance on being pro-second amendment because they are biased and would let gun-zone be attacked and shot without taking any action to stop the acts. People are fighting to have sober laws to control the circulation or usage of guns, whereas a different category of privileged people carries firearms around for “self-protection.” Thus begging the question of what are the cons and pros of abolishing or controlling the circulation of weapons and taking them around for protection purposes (Crifasi, Merrill-Francis, McCourt, Vernick, Wintemute, & Webster, 2018).
Although other parts of the world have experienced gun violence, they have been able to contain its spread, unlike the USA. For instance, the mass shooting that occurred in Australia in Port Arthur in 1999 led to the introduction of gun safety, and it has never recurred. Although Canada has experienced three mass shootings and the UK one, they have been able to come up with firearm control laws and policies and even platforms to report tragedies to be used for statistical analysis and convenience. Surprisingly Japan has never experienced a mass shooting.
Unfortunately, the United States is battling the issues around the careless use of firearms leading to violence incidences and massacres. The subject discussed up over 1000 times in 4 years alone. Nonetheless, the government meant to protect its people received $30,000,000 from the National Rifle Association. If you Divide this amount by the number of people murdered in one and a half months in 2018 equals $5800, which begs the question of whether these people were worth just $5800 to be traded by rifles and much less by the government that they pay to protect them. The government and particularly the president who was elected by these dying citizens should take note that if they don’t do anything to prevent these killings, the number will grow of deaths will go up and value reduced below $5,7800, making the citizens completely worthless.
In contrast, Kaitlin Bennett has received threats over a photo he posted with carrying a firearm. Kaitlin argues that the gun is for defending herself from rapist but not believed despite the crime being so rampant in the college. Her case geta a partisan treatment of bias and controversy without a genuine reason. Kaitlin lives in constant fear and threat, which continues to fuel anger and justification for carrying the gun.
Unfortunately, Kaitlin and her mates who carry the guns don’t do so for any validation or ill-intent but because they need to protect themselves from sexual assaults from the perpetrators. There has been a significant change in colleges over time, and the probability of rate cases is about 1 in every four women around the college. Such statistics are worrying and leave people with limited choices, one of them being arming oneself with a gun to self-protect against rapists.
In summary, there are pros and cons of guns. Thus even as people fight for laws to abolish the distribution of firearms, there is a need to understand the other category that requires them for self-protection; for example, from rapists. A better society that cares for the common good for all needs to ensure a strict law that controls the use of firearms. Secondly, people who are authorized to own guns must be well trained and certified (Jehan, Pandit, O’Keeffe, Azim, Jain, Tai Joseph, 2018).
