The Ideas of Beauty and Courage
Plato maintained that values such as beauty and courage are objectively real. He suggested that objective values are the outward features of an individual that are independent upon one’s beliefs and perceptions (Lloyd). He maintains that apart from identifying a beautiful or courageous person, humans tend to have the conception of these ideas. People can distinguish a beautiful person or thing because they possess the notion of beauty in the abstract. Therefore, beauty itself is objectively real, invisible, eternal, and unchanging.
I concur with the viewpoint of Plato that the two ideals objectively real. The reason is that when a person experiences something beautiful or a courageous act, there is usually a responsive side which automatically asserts the beauty or courage. Then, there is that other ridiculous and seemingly irrational side that convinces a person that everyone else should find it beautiful. If the two ideas are objectively real, then they should be non-material things that exist outside of matter. If such a possibility exists, then I can comfortably conclude that there is exists such traits as beauty and courage.
Yes. Indeed, the easiest way to tell whether one is dreaming is to practice checking whether one is in a dream when they are awake. That way, it will transform into a habit, and a person will begin doing reality checks while dreaming. If things appear real, then one can know that they are awake. However, when things seem slightly off, it could imply that one in a dream. Descartes is not right when he claims that he cannot differentiate the two concepts. It is easy to separate fantasy from real-life encounters.
Dreaming and waking experiences are entirely different. For instance, when people are awake, they see everything clearly through the eyes. In a dream, individuals tend to see themselves from a different angle, things appear blurred, and they somehow look like a third person. Besides, when one is awake, they record information with every sense, while in a dream, people tend to recall memories.
