Personal Experience during the Intern Program
As an intern, I was expected to perform various duties for the following six months. Being in my final year, I had covered multiple units in IT; thus, the internship program was relatively more comfortable in my case. Most of the duties assigned were practical skills that I was well conversant with. Furthermore, my zeal in research and projects related to information technology provided ample time for me. During the early stages of the program, simple tasks were assigned to me. I was required to perform simple tasks of solving troubleshooting problems, rejoining to user demands for services as well as helping to develop solutions. Maintenance of hardware modules, desktop operating systems, and application software were other responsibilities assigned to me. After analyzing and repairing the systems, I was to report to the overall IT technician who would later supervise and assert my progress. It felt nice working with high-end professionals who motivated me to work even harder. An added advantage to my side was the fact that I was more conversant with most duties, thus gaining favor from the management.
Additional Skills gained under the Internship program
With time, the management felt that I was competent enough to handle most issues, thus put me under a paid internship. I was mandated with the task of assisting the overall IT technician in GVC. Being in a higher position, I expected to learn more from my supervisors. Additional skills gained from the program would act as an advantage to me, bearing in mind that my final year project was awaiting me as soon as school re-opens. With the aid of the GVC team, I managed to develop skills in monitoring antivirus updates and software. Repairing computers infected with viruses, adware’s and spyware become more fun, unlike in school where the task seemed demanding.I was extremely overwhelmed and honored to be part of the great team. Technical duties were assigned to me as time went by.
Benefits gained from the Experience
Through the internship program, it was easier to obtain a handful of experience in the IT career. The training provided an ideal background of what I expected in the industry. My level of confidence catalyzed as I was ready to perform any IT related task without many difficulties.The internship provides an ideal background for one to build a perfect network profession (Silva, Lopes, Costa, Melo, et al., 2016). After displaying a high level of competency and getting into a paid internship, I was optimistic that the GVC organization would employ me soon. Understanding of the work-place environment was another merit. By understanding the culture of Great Valley Center, I managed to understand how emerging issues in any firm are solved. Teamwork was another dominant trait portrayed in the organization. It was thus easy to sharpen off my team working skills as well as observing leadership attributes.
Crucial Steps to foster Success in my Career Path
Current trends and patterns in the IT field mean that more actions ought to be taken by stakeholders in the industry. In my case, continuous research in the IT field would put me updated on any developing trend. I will thus be informed and equipped with the relevant skills necessary to curb any emerging issue. There will be a need for me to appreciate teamwork as I realized that it was the background of success in the GVC organization. Engaging in teamwork activities with fellow students will provide additional knowledge that would be useful in my project.
